Sequence Editor

The Sequence Editor is a tool to visualize and/or edit all sequences the Mantis will execute during actions such as dispense, prime, wash, or recovery. The sequences can be a series of movements, valve actuation, pump states, delays, or combinations of these.

Important: Custom sequences created by users would not be covered under standard software support contracts, though training on how to use the sequence editor is covered.

Sequence Editor Window

To access the Sequence Editor:

Opening the Sequence Editor

Sequence Editor Overview

The Sequence Editor window consists of three panels: Sequence Editor Panel, Valve Control Panel, and Motion Control Panel.

Section 1: Sequence Editor Panel

The sequence editor panel is divided into four areas:

Sequence Editor Panel

Toolbar Buttons

At the top of the panel, you can access the Create New Sequence, Load Sequence, Save Sequence, Run / Pause Sequence, and Stop Sequence buttons. Next to the buttons is the Sequence Type option, where you can load the basic Dispense Sequence, Prime, Wash, and Recovery.

Sequence Item Table

Once you have a sequence open, you’ll see a list of commands identified by the following codes:

Sequence Item Code Column

*Available only if Mantis is connected to an LC3.

The Delay column shows the time (in milliseconds) spent on each sequence item. Move (M) commands are run at a constant speed without delays.

Sequence Delay

The Data column is populated with the Cartesian coordinates of the move or the state of each valve sequence.

Name Description

Click the Add Sequence Item button to add more items to the Sequence Item Table.

The available selections are:

Add Item Selections

  • Valve — Select this option to add a valve state command.

  • Move — Use the Move option to instruct the Mantis arms and to move to the defined X, Y, and Z coordinates.

  • Label — The Label option can be independently added as a comment in a sequence or can be combined with the Go To option to mark sequences. For example, you can label the beginning of a sequence as Start and combine it with the Go To command to repeat that section.

  • Go To — Select this option to jump to the selected Label.

  • Air Pump — The Air Pump command turns the internal pump on and off.

  • Plate Clamp — Select this option to lock or unlock (close or open) the plate clamp.

  • Timed Valve — Use this command to cycle the diaphragm pumps and/or control valves on the chips.

  • Pressure Control — This command is used to set pressure values. For example, you can use this command to set the chip pressure before dispensing. You can also set the delay time between pressure changes.

  • Carousel — Use this command to specify the LC3 position on Mantis and the chip changer location for the L1 or R1 position.

  • LC3 — Use this command to configure the LC3 serial number and rotation degree of the carousel.

  • Go To if Drop Count — This command will jump to the first Label when the Drop Count does not meet the specified Number of Drops. If it meets the requirement, the sequence continues to the next selected Label.

Note: This feature requires the QC Station license.

  • Go To N Times — Use this command to jump to the selected Label and repeat the sequence back to the Go To command. The sequence will repeat the specified number of times, then move on to the remaining commands.

Click the Delete Sequence Item button to remove the selected item from the Sequence Item Table.

Click the Write State button to apply the valve state from the GUI to the selected Valve sequence item.

Valve Control Preview

The Valve Control Preview displays the microfluidic chip valve state for the selected item.

Section 2: Valve Control Panel

Valve Control Panel provides visual representations of the chip, including Small Diaphragm, Large Diaphragm, Output Valve, and Input Valve. Click on the diaphragms and valves to cycle them from open (green) to close (red).

Section 3: Motion Control Panel

Motion Control Panel is where you can move the Mantis hand to positions along the X, Y, and Z axis. You can also set the speed of the arm movement by using the Velocity Control slider.
