Importing Ingredients Using DoE

Another way to add ingredients to a grid layer is by importing them using the DoE button import_doe_button.

Import DOE Dialog Box

Import DOE Dialog Box

The Import DoE dialog box appears when you click the Import DoE button import_doe_button. It consists of 3 sections: Match Imported Data, Data Preview, and Match to Ingredient.

Section

Description

Match Imported Data

Displays the imported ingredient names and allows you to:

  • Match them to the ingredients in the ROCK MAKER database.

  • Select their ingredient units.

Data Preview

Displays the details of each imported ingredient.

Match to Ingredient

Displays existing ingredients in the ROCK MAKER database in two tabs.

  • All: all ingredients in the database.

  • Favorite: the ingredients marked as favorite.

Prerequisite:

  • You have an ingredient CSV file. If you don’t have any, create one.

Creating an Ingredient CSV File
  1. Open a spreadsheet and use the first row to list ingredient names. Add a pH column next to a buffer ingredient.

  2. Go to the next row and enter a value in each column accordingly: the pH value (enter 0 if you do not use buffer ingredients) in the pH column and the ingredients’ concentration values in the subsequent columns.

    Note

Each row below the first row represents a well on your plate.

  3. Save the spreadsheet as a CSV file.

To import an ingredient CSV file to a grid layer:

  1. Open an experiment with a grid layer OR create one.

  2. Click the desired grid layer or select an area in it.

  3. Go to the side panel on the right side. In the Layers subtab of the Layers Design tab, click the Import DoE button.

  4. Select an ingredient CSV file in the pop-up dialog box.

    Important

You can only import a CSV file; otherwise, an error message appears.

  5. In the Import DoE dialog box, go to the Match Imported Data section and select and match each ingredient to the one in the Match to Ingredient panel. The first column in the Match Imported Data section is the first row of the ingredient CSV file.

    Note

See the details of your imported ingredient in the Data Preview section.

Matching Imported Data and Ingredients in ROCK MAKER Database

Matching Imported Data and Ingredients in ROCK MAKER Database

    Important

    • The imported ingredient names are matched to the existing ingredients in the ROCK MAKER database when you click APPLY.

    • You must select the same unit as in the imported data.

    • Selecting an ingredient previously selected in the Match to Ingredient section automatically adds the ingredient stock and its related information to the corresponding row of the Match to column in the Match Imported Data section.

    • The concentrations of the selected ingredients in the ROCK MAKER database will be matched to the imported ingredient concentrations.

    • The number of well conditions in a grid layer determines the conditions imported from the CSV file. Suppose the CSV file consists of 6 conditions, and the grid layer consists of 4 conditions. In that case, only 4 conditions in the CSV will be added to the grid layer.

  6. If everything is set, click IMPORT. The imported ingredients are added to the Ingredients subtab in the Layers Design tab, and the concentration is updated to Vary Along Custom.

    Important

If the volume of imported ingredients exceeds a well’s total volume, an error message will appear. To resolve this, adjust the volume in the CSV file or the total volume in the Plate Types submenu.
