Splitting Reagents

Splitting reagents means you split a reagent that can easily mix well (usually water or buffer) into several parts as necessary and place it in between any precipitating reagents (for example PEGs) in the dispense list.

Splitting reagents is useful in an application in which you are dispensing with reagents that are close to saturation, because there is the possibility for those reagents to precipitate out inside the FORMULATOR nozzles.

Prerequisites

To split reagents:

  1. Open the dispense list. If you are using a pre-made dispense list, go to the File menu, point to Open, and then select Dispense List, navigate to your dispense list, and click Open.

  2. If you are not using barcode labels, drag the reagents on the Dispense List to their locations on the Inputs grid.

  3. Right-click a reagent and select Split. In this example we are splitting Water.

  4. Type the desired "split" volume in the Amount box, then click the Double Black Arrow button under the box. The resulting volumes appear in two grids, Result A and Result B.

  5. Click OK to apply.

  6. Reorder the dispense list items by dragging and dropping the split reagents you made in between the precipitating reagents.

  7. Now, you can tell the FORMULATOR to dispense your plate: Go to the Device menu and select Run.
