You should clean the septa caps whenever you change ingredients in order to prevent cross-contamination and dried reagent buildup in the caps.
A cup of water for cleaning the septa caps
A pair of gloves
A syringe
While wearing the gloves, fill the syringe with water. The gloves are necessary to ensure that the septa caps remain sterile.
Insert the syringe tip into the hole in the center of the septa cap, and then squirt the water through the hole. The water should come out through the other side.
Rinse the entire cap with water.
Let dry.
Important: If the septa caps leak after being cleaned, please ensure that the umbrella valve is properly seated by pressing down on the center of the valve inside the caps. Take a look at the picture below for reference.
Pressing the Center of the Septa Caps to Prevent Leaks
Note: Older septa caps may have blue umbrella valves.
Important: To avoid damage to the umbrella valve, do not dry the septa caps with compressed air.
