This topic explains how to image a plate from start to finish using the SONICC Benchtop version of ROCK IMAGER. If you are not using ROCK MAKER to track conditions, or you want to image a plate that does not have a barcode, please use the Instant Imaging feature.
Tell SONICC you want to load a plate. On the Imager menu, click Load/Unload Plate.
Place the plate on the imager hand. If you're using a barcode, the barcode must face towards you and should be affixed opposite the A1 position.

Tell SONICC to bring the plate inside in the imager. On the Imager menu, click Load/Unload Plate.
Tell SONICC to scan the barcode.
Using the ROCK IMAGER software, on the Imager menu, click Scan Plate(s).
Choose from the following options:
To image an entire plate with the default imaging settings, on the Imager menu, point to Image, and click Plate(s).
To image an entire plate with the imaging setting(s) of your choice, on the Imager menu, point to Image, and click Plate(s) Using. ROCK IMAGER will display a dialog box that asks you to select available imaging settings.
To inspect your plates well-by-well or drop-by-drop without taking images, go to the Live Image tabThe Live Image tab is a sub-tab of the Imager tab. It is the tab that displays by default when you open the Imager tab. To find the Live Image tab, go to the Imager tab (top-left of your screen), and look for the tabs at the bottom-left of your screen. and use the manual navigation controls.
To image a specific drop with the default imaging settings, on the Imager menu, point to Image, and click Drop.
To image a specific drop with your choice of imaging settings, on the Imager menu, point to Image, and click Drop Using.
To image only drops tagged as interesting in ROCK MAKER, on the Imager menu, point to Image, and click Interesting Drops.
OR
Point to Image, and click Interesting Drops Using if you want to use a custom imaging setting.
When your plates have been imaged at least once, you can view the resulting images. For basic help, see Viewing and Scoring Images in ROCK MAKER. Otherwise, refer to the ROCK MAKER help files.
Note: If the SONICC laser is defective during imaging sessions, the system will automatically pause the SONICC imaging and continue with visible imaging as scheduled. The system will keep all skipped SONICC inspections in the imaging queue until the laser is repaired, at which time the inspections will be run automatically.
