Rover
The Rover Parts Overview
The ROVER® automated labware delivery system uses a fleet of self-driving mobile robots to execute all plate and reservoir transfers throughout the system. Up to 6 Rovers can operate in the system at once, carrying plates between instrument and storage locations in all five cabinets. Rovers also scan labware barcodes, redistribute cells through a special movement sequence, and provide X-Y positioning for media dispensing in the Refrigerator. Rovers are fully interchangeable, and can be easily removed or swapped in the event of failure or maintenance.
Rovers perform real-time visual alignment for precise positioning, using a downward facing camera to read unique dot matrices from underlying mats. Each Cellmatic cabinet houses an elevator that Rovers use to access the vertical columns of instruments and plate storage locations. Forward facing cameras allow Rovers to read labware barcodes to register incoming plates and validate their positions within Cellmatic. Rovers perform plate transfers using an integrated spatula, which gently lifts and places plates onto and off of the Rover.
Fleet Manager (FM) is ROVER’s operating software, and is controlled directly by the Cellmatic system with no user input required. Cellmatic Suite schedules a task with the FM, which then handles the details of Rover activity including selecting Rovers for tasks, managing Rover charging, and informing the user of any issues. Motion profiles are highly configurable to support sensitive payloads, and are applied dynamically to allow Rovers to move quickly when free of labware.
